The Perdue Way

We care about animal care.
it’s not the easy way. It’s the perdue way.

We started raising poultry in 1920, and we’ve been dedicated to animal welfare ever since.

Responsibility for the welfare of the animals in our care has always been a part of our company’s stewardship commitment, and we’ve long had a robust program of poultry care. We strive to ensure the health, comfort and respectful treatment of poultry, with a focus on continual improvement.

Four parts. One goal. Continued commitment to animal care.

See the extra steps we’re taking:

  • Part One

    part one
going beyond our chickens’ basic needs

We know that chickens need more than food and water. Little extras add up to make a big difference in their lives. We're raising them to higher standards by giving them what they want and need, with forward-thinking initiatives such as baby chick nutritional programs, natural light in chicken houses, and guidelines for air and bedding quality.

We believe in five freedoms for animals.

  • Part Two

    part two
    Connecting with family farmers

We're committed to listening and communicating to the people who take care of our animals, and we're building better relationships with them every day. We're improving things for farmers and our animals by connecting animal welfare to pay and incentives. Meet a few of our family farmers to learn more.

  • Part Three

    part three
    Being open, transparent and trustworthy

We're open to constructive criticism from everyone, and we're committed to answer to it. We're responding to questions, sharing important information about our animal welfare initiatives and starting conversations with key animal care stakeholders. Our Poultry Care programs are audited by independent third parties such as the USDA, and for some animals raised by Perdue, by the Global Animal Partnership.

  • Part Four

    part four
    believing in continual improvement

We've had an active Animal Care Council for more than 15 years, but we're still learning new things every day. We use what we learn to advance our animal care programs and ensure the health and safety of our chickens, adding next-generation initiatives to improve the raising of our animals.

5 FREEDOMS

WHEN WE SAY 'NO ANTIBIOTICS EVER'
WE MEAN IT.

At Perdue, we are committed to raising our chickens with no antibiotics of any kind, at any time. And we started our journey toward No-Antibiotics-Ever chicken in 2002, before the other brands were even thinking about it.

“As the third generation to lead Perdue, I'm continuing to build on our foundation of trust. So take my word for it – when we say 'no antibiotics,' that's what we mean. There are no exceptions and no fine print.”
— Jim Perdue

You know exactly what you're getting, and what your chicken didn't get. If you want the no-antibiotics-ever assurance today, look to Perdue to deliver great-tasting, No Antibiotics EVER products.

Checklist

APPROVED AND THEN SOME

All chicken is inspected by the USDA, but Perdue asked the USDA to go even further — in our hatcheries, our feed mills and the family farms where our chickens are raised. The USDA verifies that all our chickens are fed a 100% vegetarian diet, with no animal by-products, and cared for in a clean, safe environment.

USDA Process VerifiedTo give you the assurance you want regarding how our chicken is raised, fed and processed, we work directly with the USDA to create verification programs to address these areas.

DOING THE RIGHT THING

WHAT THE SEAL MEANS

The USDA Process Verified seal lets you know that PERDUE® Fresh All-Natural Chicken has been:

  • Raised without cages
  • Fed an all-vegetarian diet with no animal by-products
  • Labeled with our Signature Tenderness Guarantee on selected products

When you see the seal, you know that we’ve gone above and beyond to help you feel even better about the chicken you’re eating.

THE PROCESS VERIFIED PROGRAM

Perdue was the first chicken company to receive the USDA Process Verified seal, letting consumers know that we meet specific quality standards on a consistent and ongoing basis as verified by the USDA and independent third-party audits. These audits include reviews and validation of our documented quality management system. Upon acceptance by the USDA, we can market this certification process as USDA Process Verified.

Corn100% VEGGIE FED

Some chicken companies cut corners by feeding their chickens animal by-products like blood and bone meal. But all PERDUE® chickens are fed a 100% vegetarian diet, because we believe that if you wouldn't feed it to your family, we shouldn't give it to our chickens.
